Our Leading Lady and Man... King and Queen of the VPMAs
The 2017 VPMAs were significantly impact by the presence of the one and only Aaradhna and the new shinning light that is Kings, who were the two big winners on the night, taking home four awards each.
Aaradhna is no stranger to awards ceremonies, and holds the record at the VPMAs for winning the most awards, when she took home 5 trophies in 2013, for her album ‘Treble and Reverb”. Since that awards ceremony, Aaradhna has spent a lot of time overaseas which has meant she has been unable to attend for a few years. However, last year she did a surprise guest performance, which was the first live performance of “Brown Girl” and this year it was wonderful to have her for the full awards ceremony. Throughout the night the audience was treated to an insight to who Aaradhna is as a person. As she delivered each acceptance speech, she shared her personality and personal stories with the audience. Like many artists, Aaradhna displayed the contradiction that is often “in play” for most artists, shy, humble and unassuming in person, but then absolutely commanding and absolutely confident when performing. She definitely displayed this on the awards stage, being the utmost professional performer that she is, and gave a beautiful and captivating performance of her latest single “Forever Love”.
The night also highlighted the emerging career of Kings and his breakout hit “Don’t Worry Bout It”. The song catapulted Kings as an artist and is renowned for holding the record for the longest running #1 single on the NZ Singles Charts – taking the crown held by Lorde. “Don’t Worry Bout It” is such a great demonstration of what one song can do to change someone’s life.
Kings has a strong physical presence – with his stature and broad shoulders. His speeches gave evidence to a well spoken, humble and grounded young man. It was clear that he has been determined and focus with his music and is set to establish a strong career in the music industry. He is well supported with his music and gave acknowledgment and recognition to two key people, his manager and his father – which again hinted to his character as a person.
Both Aaradhna and Kings are now working on their new projects – writing new songs and hitting the studio – we all can’t wait to hear what they create and to share the next phase of their music journey.
